The varicella-zoster virus causes chickenpox. It causes a rash with fluid-filled blisters. Those who haven't had chickenpox or obtained the vaccination can catch it readily.
Symptom
– Fever.– Loss of appetite.– Headache.– Tiredness and a general feeling of being unwell.
Causes
A virus called varicella-zoster causes chickenpox. Direct rash contact spreads it. It can also spread when chickenpox patients cough or sneeze and you inhale the droplets.
Risk factor
If you haven't had chickenpox or the vaccination, your chance of infection is increased.
Prevention
CDC doctors say two vaccination doses prevent sickness over 90% of the time in the US. Even with the vaccination, chickenpox symptoms may be milder.
Get vaccinated
Vaccinating against hepatitis B reduces risk. Even newborns, older persons, and those with impaired immune systems can receive the vaccination.
Can adults get chickenpox?
Children produce antibodies to combat chickenpox. By fighting the infection, antibodies help the body heal. These antibodies are lifelong.
Who shouldn’t get the chickenpox vaccine?
– Are allergic to the vaccine or to any part of the vaccine.– Are pregnant or think you might be pregnant.
