What is dengue fever?

The bite of a mosquito carrying one of four dengue virus strains causes dengue fever. The virus is more frequent in tropical and subtropical regions like Central and South America.

Who does dengue fever affect?

Central and South America have the most dengue. Some US states have dengue. Over half the world's population lives or travels in these areas, worst impacted.

How common is dengue fever?

Around 400 million individuals contract dengue each year, although 80% show no symptoms.

– Rash. – Intense pain behind your eyes. – Nausea or vomiting. – Muscle, bone and joint pain.

What causes dengue fever?

One of four dengue viruses causes fever. Dengue viruses may enter your blood and replicate when a mosquito bites you.
